Providing Books for Children

The Ascension St. Mary’s ER Book program provides every child who visits the Emergency Department, or their Ascension physician in Birch Run, Chesaning, Vassar, Bay City or Saginaw, with a book of their very own to take home and enjoy.

Providing books for children and teens helps create a friendlier and less intimidating environment during their medical visit and helps to promote a love of reading. In the last 18 months, Ascension St. Mary’s Foundation, with the assistance of these physician offices, has given away over 10,000 books.

Community members have the opportunity to support this program in one of the following ways:

  • Choose the books you would like to purchase from the attached order form and send the form, along with your payment, to the Ascension St. Mary’s Foundation.
  •  Give a tax-deductible monetary donation to the Ascension St. Mary’s Foundation and we will choose the books for you.
  • Donate new or gently used books, at all age levels, to be used for the ER Book program. (Due to COVID restrictions, please contact the Foundation office to arrange to drop off the books.)

All books will be labeled with a special sticker indicating that they were donated by generous community supporters like you.

Should you have any questions or want additional information about the Ascension St. Mary’s ER Book program, please contact Denise in the Ascension St. Mary’s Foundation at 989-907-8748.

You will never know the names of the children you are helping, but you will put a smile on their faces.  Thank you for partnering with us to make a difference.
